PERSONAL INFORMATION

Joseph Perna, pianist, performing in concerts as a solo pianist and didactic teaching of Tonal Harmony and Harmony Modal, like many European colleagues, has gone from Villa Avantgarde of the '60s and '70s out of the twelve-tone serialism and post-Webern, through the combination of neo-classical and modal harmony and gradually transformed into an improviser in a style that combines the classicism and contemporary modal jazz avant-garde. The poetic and melodic music of Giuseppe Perna as he himself calls it "an attempt to dive in myself to be able to touch the beauty." The art of G.P. it also captures his skepticism about contemporary society, it is the music of the stop in time, materializing in the sound of a vacuum surprising rhythmic and melodic where the action is often slowed down deliberately to induce reflection. The modal improvisation free from predictable and pushes into the unknown of a performance where the orchestration typical of modernity official proposal weakens the darkening of 'musical element of tonal gravity. info: na.pe54 @ yahoo.it

ARMOZO

ARMONIA. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ARMOZO HARMONY. In fact, the word comes from the greek "harmony" signifca: link, ligament, connection, and the verb "armozo" connect, connect, unite. So tonal harmony sound taken alone, however, has no value, has value in relation to the preceding and following sounds as you create the so-called melodic line, the same holds true for those agreements which have established sequence according to the rules tonalistiche assumes meaning that now, after years and centuries of tonality, like even more as it is expected to become the listener. The music that uses modes only as such and / or with a view tonalistica rightly does not contain harmony as there is a chord sequence that has a trend cadenziale or purposeful as in tonal music. This is true as long as 1) the modal music is seen from the point of view tonal. 2) until the modal music tracks through it is proposed that use only one way in the form not altered. point 1): A sequence of chords of tonal music creates "harmony" on the basis of "quality dynamics of a group of agreements" (a concept which from now on will define the term Anglo-Saxon "Contour".) In modal music there is ability to create the "contour". And this possibility exists even in compositions that use only one way. The contour has as its purpose the creation of a logical linking agreements. Tonal harmony creating the "contour" has rules, CRITERIA BASED ON LOGIC, we know (type II-VI, the fifth waterfall Gershwin, Coltrane changes, turn around several ....). In modal music there are other rules that allow us to create a contour, and are based on other principles such as the concept of tonal tension and relaxation: The arrangement of semitones in a modal scale (eg Phrygian), determines its headache, compared another modal scale in which half steps have another (eg Mixolydian). Consequently, the use of modal scales done according to certain rules creates a contour based on OTHER CRITERIA LOGIC and then a "connection" between agreements and methods used that deserves the name "HARMONY". point 2): The use of only one way in the form is not altered rightly devoid of harmony in since there are no voltages and distensions fails the contour modal as described briefly in the previous response. Even here, however, there is a way to create tension and relaxation and to create a contour! The possibility is given by the use of altered ways. These are the traditional ways in which we introduce the "missing notes". Let me explain: for example, if we start from the basic mode-C-Lydian in a piece of single-mode, the notes in the scale are qelle we all know. The missing notes are Db-Eb-F-Ab-Bb. (Recall that any scale is an extract of the chromatic scale and then the missing notes are actually notes "do not play" but not "notes that do not exist" in the scale choice: Introducing these notes one at a time, or even more than one at a time we get the "modal scales altered." I want to make an example of simplification: If we introduce Db other agreements and other melodic lines as the triad Db / F / A, if we introduce the Eb triad Eb / G / C or other triads such as Eb / G / Bb and other melodic lines and so on. chord All these new forms overlap the cantus firmus in the form of C Lydian poliaccordale, contrappunistica or polyphonic creating situations in two-tone character etc. .... This type of approach to modal scale causes a modal scale altered in various ways with the addition of the missing notes is able to create situations of tension and relaxation tonal with introductions of various new agreements and melodic lines that overlapping the base so creating a "contour" and then the 'HARMONY. logic that connects the various forms chordal and through which choose the missing notes to be played EXISTS and briefly acts in such a logic function of the degree of dissonance created by the chosen note to insert. fact, every note is missing part of a "level of dissonance" according to the logic IN-OUT.

L'IMPROVVISAZIONE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The IMPROVISATION Here I am not speaking of improvisation performed on a theme taken from the Real Book. I speak of total improvisation, that '"universe" that goes beyond the theme and its improvisation, it requires a careful study of musical possibilities and techniques. The challenge is twofold because on the one hand the public must rely totally on the other pianist / composer has to fight the risks that involves improvisation (the risk of boring you, the lack of ideas etc etc) The study in my case, in As an improviser, is not the study of the classics and even as an exercise in improvisation, because the extemporaneous composition requires a particular mood. Certainly the technical skills are the "conditio sine qua non" also in the improvisation is essential to have a deep knowledge of harmony, it is good that there is in the execution that competence but is not essential. Certainly the extemporaneous composition is risky for the public because if not ready message is likely to get bored. If the pianist is proposed as an improviser in a performance of "solo piano", it means that it has the skills, the real problem is the quality of the piano is often inadequate and the '"ambient". These are the factors that affect substantially to the piano performance. My experience as a pianist, improviser, he taught me that music is not a spontaneous herb garden plants. It 'also true that if the music is spontaneous grass, must know how to recognize. The level of musical education in Italy borders on the ridiculous. The concert halls are struggling to see the young, the concert programs are repetitive and abused. A musical culture would encourage greater musical vitality you prefer flatten everything to make way for new industrial products. Of course, the phenomenon can be fought but it is like pushing on a climb a big car that does not walk. You should go to the origins of the phenomenon in order to understand the solution. The superficiality with which it deals with the music is an aspect of superficiality with which you deal with virtually every aspect of social life is related to the next in relation to the self. Final outcome, however, of all modern ideologies, communist or liberal, has been the downfall of all ideals and all values. In conclusion, it seems to me that the new philosophers of morality, alleged critics of the system, (for instance those that organize shows in theaters or cultural events in the municipalities with public money) are actually conventionalists ie, as conformed to the dominant line, reflecting the idea of art as a moral and convention, as a set of rules and standards are justified because of their usefulness to the social order, which would be laudable if it were not for the fact that this order does not seem to place the defense of values but has in itself the only value. So what do you expect from a spoiled and wealthy bourgeois society? the inaction!, culture is uncomfortable. To cure this evil is not just a tablet should explant culture and impiantarne another. but this is difficult as long as there are people who think to put out the fire by those who went on. I do not know if I talked too much or too little, good or bad, depending on your point of view. I still continue to be a pianist improviser involuntary, my music, like it or not is an herb spontaneous, anti-bourgeois, not the garden plant created by the major record companies, not the pop Allevi touted as "contemporary classical music" and so 'on ..... I do not in the spirit of heroism or to put across, but only because I like it. I, too, in recent years I interpreted the classics, but then I said, "what sense does it make an effort to interpret Mozart and other musicians of the past centuries having the phone in your pocket and the car parked outside etc. .. etc. ...." is right and useful that this should be done, however, not to forget, to passion, to build the foundation for the culture. Attention, therefore, the improvisation, what choice of life .... I think it is a journey against the current of which to be aware.
